The following streets will close at 2pm on 12/31 to 4am on 1/1 for Fredericksburg First Night.
600-900 blocks of Sophia St. & Caroline St.
100-200 blocks of George St., Hanover St. and Charlotte St.
William St. and Princess Anne St. will remain open. Please prepare to arrive early for parking.
Since 1994, Fredericksburg First Night® has become a holiday tradition and regional treasure.
Historic Downtown Fredericksburg is the stage for the evening with revelers enjoying – and even joining in – the multiple, simultaneous, and continuous performances and activities put on by our region’s diverse artists.
The New Year is welcomed in at Riverfront Park with a midnight fireworks celebration and world illumination /countdown. Held in historic churches, Old Town streets, and businesses, all First Night® sites are alcohol free, allowing our city’s celebration on New Year’s Eve to be an event that everyone can enjoy.

Fredericksburg First Night’s mission and goal is to provide safe, entertaining and family friendly alternative to traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations. In doing so, we broaden and deepen our city’s appreciation of the visual and performing arts through innovative, diverse and high quality New Year’s Eve programs which offer the Fredericksburg Community a shared cultural experience that is accessible and affordable.
ABOUT FIRST NIGHT.ORG
Founded in 1976 in Boston (1991 in St. Louis), First Night is a community celebration of the New Year expressed through the arts. It is a major visual and performing arts festival created by and for the community to welcome the New Year. In order to maximize the participation of people of all ages, First Night is a non-alcoholic event.
Grand Center, Inc. is the parent non- profit organization and license holder that is sanctioned to produce the First Night festival for Fredericksburg.
